There are many romantic myths and legends surrounding Valentines day , some say he was a priest named Valentinus whom was martyred in about 269 AD. Here is my romantic version of Valentiinus.
Many years ago there lived and reigned a Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Claudius Augustus, or Claudius Gothicus or Claudius II. He was extremely strong and powerful and known to many as quiet evil. He believed in order to build a strong solid army that could not be crushed, his soldiers must remain single. Claudius II believed this so strongly that he created a law forbidding any soldier to marry the penalty would be death for any priest caught conducting a wedding ceremony.
However there lived a priest Valentine( Latin name) Valentinus, with strong values opinions and high morals, whom believed in the vowels of love and marriage. He had the courage to do what he felt in his heart was G-d's wish. That two people whom loved each other should not live in sin, so he performed many wedding ceremonies for the Soldier of Claudius Gothicus II army.
Claudius II was outraged and known for his madness ordered his soldiers to capture Valentinus so much was Claudiu's outrage that before the court Claudius himself interrogated and persecuted Valentinus as a Christian. In doing so Claudius became intrigued by Valentinus the persecution became a discussion where Claudius begged Valentinus in order to save his life he must convert to Roman paganism. Valentinus refused, and turned to Claudius II and tried to convince Claudius to convert to Christianity! Claudius II became mad with rage and immediately ordered Valentinus to be executed.
Legend has it that during Valentinus's time in the prison cell he became friendly with his jailor. The Jailor brought his blind though beautiful daughter to visit Valentinus, Then Valentinus performed a miracle he healed the jailers daughter of blindness. The daughter and Valentinus fell deeply in love, and on the eve of his execution Valentinus wrote a note to his beloved signing it your Valentine.
Valentine was later martyred in approximately 269 AD.
This is as near the truth as you will find, So you see Valentines Day truly is a romantic day. I wish everyone a wonderful day. For those of you whom are single the moral of this story is true love is never easy and it is worth fighting for. You will find love and each day brings you but 1 step closer...
